Graduation

Reality has struck, that now that I graduated I am one out of a million other graduates searching for my place in Corporate America. The odds aren’t in anyone’s favor but what is in my favor is my foundation of knowledge, training and determination. This post is for the recent lucky graduates that have worked so hard to achieve this moment.

With our newly obtained degrees (fresh out of the printer) in hand, we have all started to seek our own paths either through the finance sector, entertainment, entrepreneurial and in my case marketing or PR.  With our current unemployment rate being at 8.2%, obtaining a job in you’re specified field is almost impossible. Obtaining a salary that can help you quickly pay off you’re current student loans which have started to accumulate interest is also almost impossible. The graduating class of 2012 doesn’t have it easy.

CNN reports some positive news in which “employers report they’ll hire 19% more new college graduates this year than last year, and average salary offers will start at $50,462, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).”

A couple tips CNN and other reports have provide for recent graduates to obtain employment are the following;

1. Network
2. Edit resume
3. Make a good first Impressions
4. Keep busy
5. Obtain  recommendations and references
6. Clean up social media outlets
7. Send a thank you note after an interview

I know we have all heard and used these tips before but they work! If anyone I know needs a recommendation letter on Linkedln or needs a reference let me know (we’re all here to help each other).
